The National Beef Association

The NBA aims to:

  • Identify and promote highest possible levels of best practice throughout the production chain­
  • Achieve a return that allows quality welfare and standards in the chain to rise
  • Raise cattle health standards in the UK
  • Develop beef eating and health benefits to consumers
  • Improve and widen the scope of beef labelling for the benefits of consumers
  • Identify and promote the environmental benefits where appropriate of grazing cattle
  • Maintain beef cattle in the uplands and the communities and landscapes that they sustain

Guidance to Natural England on the implementation and enforcement of a badger control policy­

We at the National Beef Association (NBA) are fully committed to ridding the UK of TB and are delighted to be able to comment on the draft guidance to Natural England (NE) regarding licences to cull and vaccinate badgers in specified control areas.

It is very positive that we are heading towards a situation where the industry and Government can work together to tackle this disease issue on all fronts, and the NBA is enthusiastic about the idea of taking measures in areas of high TB infection to reduce infected badger numbers in addition to the existing exhaustive cattle controls. We see this issue as entirely about disease control; not the extermination of badgers but rather action to protect healthy badgers from the 10-mile per year spread of TB within the species.....more information »

Bluetongue - Disease free status­

The following come into force at 00:01 hours on 5 July 2011 and will be available on the Scottish Government Website at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/bluetongue

1) Declaration revoking the bluetongue (BTV8) restricted zone, protection zone and lower risk zone in Scotland.

2) Revocation of the general licence to vaccinate animals against bluetongue virus serotype 8 in Scotland.

Although GB is declaring disease freedom it is vital that livestock keepers continue to source responsibly and check the health and vaccination status of their animals.

­­Healthy benefits of beef in the die­t

The National Beef Association is recognised as the main advisor to all governments on the healthy benefits of beef in the diet and the importance of procuring UK beef by public sectors.

The NBA Director, Kim Haywood, is a registered British Nutritionist (BSc Human Nutrition with Distinction).

The Association frequently inserts technical bulletins in the Public Service Review Journal, which is read by all Government Ministers, Local Authorities, Councillors and Public Procurement Contractors.
