SHOWMANSHIP
The showmanship classes at the Pedigree Calf Fair were judged by Alison Connolly from Saintfield. Throughout the morning competitors were observed preparing their animals for the showring, and working with their teammates to keep the cattle clean and stall tidy. The class winners receive embroidered jackets sponsored by Alison Beattie from Farm Wardrobe. Results include:
Handler aged 21 to 25-years-old – 1, Philip Johnston; 2, Naomi Gregg; 3, Andrew Clarke.
Handler aged 17 to 20-years-old – 1, Adam Armour; 2, Andrew Johnston; 3, Adam Johnston; 4, Jack Wilson.
Handler aged 15 to 16 years-old – 1, David Rea; 2, Sam Matchett; 3, Eleanor Reilly; 4, James McComb.

ABERDEEN ANGUS
A strong entry of Aberdeen Angus calves were judged by John Coultrip from Faversham in Kent. He awarded the senior championship to the fourteen-month-old bull Drummeer Popper P584 bred by Alan and Naomi Morrison, Maguiresbridge. Sired by the 19,000gns Blelack Evermore J231, he was bred from Drummeer Poppy G311 – one of 15 cows in the herd. Runner-up in the senior championship was the yearling bull Drumlone Evermore P527 bred by Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw. This one is by Rawburn Black Hawk, and out of a home-bred dam.
The junior section was led by John and Samantha Allen, Strabane, with their ten-month-old heifer Crew Lady Jazz. Sired by Bunlaghy John G, she is bred from Cregga Judy, and was a first prize winner at the NI Aberdeen Angus Club’s annual calf show in Dungannon, and reserve breed champion at Enniskillen Show. Securing the junior championship was Birches Pride N Joy, a nine-month-old Aynho Rossiter Eric B123 son exhibited by the Matchett family from Portadown. He was a first prize winner at Omagh Show.

HEREFORD
David Wilson, and sons Robbie and Jack, Magheraveely, County Fermanagh, claimed the senior Hereford championship with their bull Lisrace Lumberjack 15th. Born in December 2014, he is by stock bull Ballyaville Lifeliner, and is bred from Lisrace Pretty Maid, the best breeding cow line in the 30-cow herd.  Judge Albert de Cogan from County Cork awarded the reserve senior ribbons to Solpoll 1 Starlet M10, a thirteen-month-old heifer from John and William McMordie’s herd at Ballygowan. 
Junior champion was the five-month-old Richmount 1 Mac exhibited by James Graham, and son Bradley, from Portadown. This one was sired by Richmount 1 Kaiser, and is bred from Richmount 1 Lady Gaga. Runner-up was the March 2015 born Umgola 1 Lady 3rd bred by Stephen Baxter, Armagh. She is by Lislola 1 Eddie, and out of Tarascon 1 Lady.

IRISH MOILED
County Down Irish Moiled breeder Michelle McCauley took the senior championship under judge Christopher Ball from Uttoxeter. Her winning entry was the eleven-month-old Curraghnakeely Pandora 7th, sired by Derrynagarra Victor. She was champion at the native breeds show at Gosford, and junior champion at Castlewellan Show.
The junior championship went to Cultra Lorraine, a ten-month-old heifer from Robert Berry’s herd. She is by Glassdrummond Karl 3, and is bred from Cultra Bluebell. Runner-up was the nine-month-old bull calf Beechmount Barney shown by Robert Boyle who runs 20 pedigree females at Millisle. He is by Springfield Maestro, and was a first prize winner at Gosford earlier this year.

BEEF SHORTHORN
The Beef Shorthorn classes were judged by Carey Coombs from Carnwath in Lanarkshire.
Winner of the senior championship was the thirteen-month-old bull Hurrican of Ballyvaddy, a Chapelton Typhoon son bred by Thomas and Kate Madden, Carnlough. 
Claiming the spoils in the junior championship line-up was Burnside Jewel, a ten-month-old Chapelton Yardley heifer bred by the husband and wife team of William and Jill McAllister, Kells. Runner-up was the six-month-old heifer calf Croobview Jellytot, a Chapelton Typhoon daughter bred by Denise Bailie from Dromara.

SALERS
George McCall from Collone, Armagh, had a great day at the Pedigree Calf Fair, winning five out of the six Salers classes at the inaugural event. 
The Salers entry came under scrutiny from Jock Watson from Doncaster who awarded the senior championship to Carrick View Judy, a yearling heifer bred by George McCall. She is by Trafalgar, and bred from Carrick View Heloise. Runner-up in the senior section was Drumlegagh Hawk, a September 2014 born Variegeois son bred by John Elliott from Newtownstewart.
Leading the junior line-up was the nine-month-old bull Carrick View Kenny Rodgers, a Trafalgar son exhibited by George McCall. Rio was behind the breeding of George McCall’s February-born reserve junior champion Carrick View Kiss.

CHAROLAIS
Archie MacGregor from Kilsyth, Glasgow, was officiating in the Charolais showring. His choice for senior champion was the thirteen-month-old Coolnaslee Jillie brought out by Gilbert Crawford, and stockman Stuart Wilson, who run 65-cows at Maghera. Sired by the 70,000gns Barnsford Ferny, she is bred from the Allanfauld Superscot daughter Coolnaslee Danielle. 
Standing in reserve position was the thirteen-month-old bull Ratoary Justrite ET bred by Sean McGovern, Clogher. He is one of three prize winning ET brothers by Loughend Apache, and is bred from Clooncullane Chloe. This bull was a winner at the Minsups final, and reserve champion in the Bank of Ireland bull derby at Clogher Show. 
Winning the junior championship was Brigadoon Lolly, a seven-month-old heifer bred by Albert and David Connolly, who run a 30-cow herd at Ballynahinch. She is by stock bull Brigadoon Himself, and is out of the prize winning Allanfauld Superscot daughter Brigadoon Dolly.  
Runner-up in the junior line-up was Fury Leader, a ten-month-old bull shown by Pat Hackett from Clogher. He is by Crossmolina Euro, and is out of a home-bred dam.

LIMOUSIN
The Limousin entry was judged by James Hazard from the Mereside herd based at Grantham in Lincolnshire. He awarded the breed’s senior championship to Larkhill Julius, a thirteen-month-old bull bred by veterinary surgeons Brian and Cahir McAuley, Antrim. Sired by Hightown Dalglish, he is bred from Larkhill Grace, a daughter of the herd’s flagship cow Firmount Countess – whose sons have topped at 22,000gns.
Runner-up for the senior championship was Peter Murphy’s Carrickaldreen Jervis a yearling bull by the noted Nenuphar.
Leading the junior Limousin line-up was Claragh Lily, an eleven-month-old heifer by Wildoge Vantastic, bred by the father and son team of John and Paul Rainey from Kilrea. Taking the reserve award was Culnagechan Lethal, a nine-month-old heifer bred by Derek Hume who runs a herd of 60 pedigree cows at Randalstown. She was sired by the home-bred Culnaghechan Falcon – sold at Carlisle in May 2012 for 48,000gns.

SIMMENTAL
The strong entry of Simmentals was judged by Scotsman Hector MacAskill. Taking the senior championship award was Lisglass Fortune, a fourteen-month-old bull from Leslie and Christopher Weatherup’s 35-cow herd at Ballyclare. He was sired by stock bull Dermotstown Delboy, and is bred from Lummin Bronte.
Runner-up was the yearling bull Drumlone Fabulous, a Carnkern Titan son, bred by Kenneth Veitch who runs 5 pedigree Simmental cows at Lisbellaw. 
Brothers Shane and Paul McDonald, Tempo, secured the junior championship plaudits with their ten-month-old bull Coolcran Gladiator. He was sired by former stock bull Kilbride Farm Ahoghill, and is a full brother to the February 2014 Stirling intermediate champion Coolcran Dazzler sold for 7,000gns.
Standing reserve in the junior championship line-up was Cleenagh Good Girl, a nine-month-old Ashland Brandy daughter bred by Adrian Richardson from Maguiresbridge.  She was the winner of the Dale Cup at Enniskillen Show in August.

BRITISH BLONDE
A small entry of British Blondes were judged by Desmond Greene from County Wexford. Claiming the day’s senior championship was the thirteen-month-old bull Ivaniskey Justabull bred by Ivan, Ruth and William McElroy, Dromara. He is the first son of stock bull Glenvale Harry, and was bred from Ivaniskey Dimples – one of 10 cows in the herd founded 20 years ago. This one was All-Ireland calf champion at Clogher in July.
Runner-up was the nine-month-old Ivaniskey Limited Edition. He was sired by the French-bred Tino, and is bred from the 2015 Balmoral and Royal Highland Show champion Ivaniskey Densie.

BRITISH BLUE
British Blue judge Jarlath Duggan from Rathdowney, County Laois, awarded the breed’s senior championship to Jalex Jina, an eleven-month-old heifer bred by James Alexander, Randalstown. Sired by the Belgian AI bull Empire D’ochain, she is bred from Willnant Gina –supreme champion at Armagh Show in 2013.
Runner-up was the eleven-month-old heifer Drumboy Jessie bred by Oliver McCann. Sired by Ballygrange Alex, she was placed second at Castlewellan Show, and was first in her class at the NI club’s calf show in Downpatrick.
The Martin family from Newtownards claimed the junior championship award with April 2015 born Springhil Kosher. She I by Adajio de Bray, and is out of Springhill Golden Girl. Taking the reserve award were Jack and Ann Morrison, Armoy, with the ten-month-old heifer Chatham Kara, by Langoureux de Fooz.
