NBA looks forward to independent food report from Chatham House
As indicated in its press release of Monday October 20th, “Is food production about to emerge as a new national priority?” the National Beef Association is looking forward to a detailed analysis on food security for the UK, which is expected from Chatham House sometime next month.
It is particularly interested in Chatham House views on how national food supplies can be sustained in the face of a number of emerging difficulties such as population growth, rising energy costs, and changes in both international and domestic supply patterns.
However in its press release the NBA mistakenly referred to Chatham House as a government think-tank.
So for reasons of clarity, and to avoid confusion, can the NBA make clear to editors that Chatham House is an independent, international affairs think-tank and membership organisation, which is precluded by its Charter from expressing any institutional view or policy – and ask them to make note of this if they refer to the contents of our press release..
It is the NBA’s view that this independence will give the Chatham House report added weight and make it a valuable contributor to the emerging food security debate. The Association has not seen the final report which is to be finalised and distributed in the near future.
