NBA Scotland welcomes Scotland’s success at achieving OTF status:

NBA Scotland welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that it had been successful in achieving its Official TB Free Status in Brussels today.

‘We agree with the principle of doing everything possible to keep bovine TB out of Scotland and we look forward to discussing the implementation details with the Scottish Government’.

There is concern about some trade implications, especially for big finishers in the north of Scotland, and their ability to source high quality animals from the north of England under the new arrangements.

NBA Scotland would also like to see the continuation of four year TB testing of breeding herds after the six year transitional period to act as a safety measure against animals which may slip through the net, given the reliability of the skin test.   They will also be recommending a surveillance programme for badgers and the testing of camelids (alpacas) before they enter Scotland.
