Press Release: BRITONS AND ROYALTY WEDDED TO BEEF!

21st April 2011

Region: National

THE very best of British beef is the preferred main course for Britons out to celebrate the Royal wedding on April 29.
A Royal treat since the days of Good Queen Bess and Queen Victoria beef remains the national dish of Britons from the Shetland Isles to the South Downs.
According to National Beef Association director Kim Haywood, a human nutritionist, surveys show quality assured British beef remains the ultimate meat treat for modern Britons.
“Just as 16th century Tudor monarchs fed their elite Yeomen of the Guard at the Tower beef, hence their nick name Beefeaters, so today British beef meets the nation’s needs.
“Beef in Britain is produced without the additives used by other nations such as the USA and to exacting standards set by the most discerning meat market in Europe.
“Each year UK citizens, on average, consume almost 18kg of beef be it as roast, hot or cold, steak indoors or barbequed, filling stew or casserole. No wonder in an NBA phone around beef topped the list as the meat of choice over the Royal wedding weekend.
“Hardly a surprise as part of being British means eating beef, especially on high days and holidays, a tradition going back to Prince William’s Royal ancestors almost a 1000 years ago. A time when ‘beefing up’ the nation’s defences literally meant putting the best of beef on the menu for knights, archers and men at arms!
“Happily a very healthy tradition as nothing is better than British beef for all ages gathering round the dinner table toasting the Royal couple next Friday evening.
“British beef is a nutrient-dense food and an excellent source of protein, zinc, iron, niacin, vitamin B15 and B6, selenium, long chain omega 3s, antioxidants and phosphorous. Low in fat compared to most meats British beef has the highest rating on taste and consumer satisfaction.”
The NBA director adding that efficient beef production is a very carbon friendly means of providing good food for Britain’s burgeoning population.
No wonder Mark Flanagan, who leads the 24 Royal Chefs at Buckingham Palace, is a supporter of beef from British farms including the Royal Estates.
With members across all four home countries, including London Mayor Boris Johnson, the National Beef Association was formed by farmers and their supporters to promote the natural production of high quality British beef on 66,000 UK beef farms.
Worth £6.4 billion to the British economy the beef business plays a huge part in protecting our rural way of life and offers us all a right Royal treat this weekend!
