NBA names Review Committee to look at future structure of the organisation

Following its AGM last week (Thursday, October 20th) and the decision to adapt its constitution, structure and internal rules, the NBA has formally named the Review Committee charged with moving things forward.

Two of the four directors named immediately after the AGM – Hamish McBean and Stephen Heenan – remain on the Review Committee and are joined by Paul Westaway and Duff Burrell.

Hamish McBean is chairman of NBA Scotland and held the position of national vice chairman on the former board. The farmer from Nairn, in the Highlands, chairs the Review Committee and is enthusiastic about changes that can be made to strengthen the NBA.

Mr McBean is joined by Stephen Heenan, a farmer from Downpatrick, County Down, who sits on the NBA Northern Ireland Council. Also Duff Burrell, a former NBA chairman who, farming in Alnwick, Northumberland, sits on the NBA Northern Council. The fourth member is Gloucestershire farmer Paul Westaway, who is a relatively new face to the NBA, having taken on the chairmanship of its Beef Expo event in September this year.

Mr McBean says the four-man Committee draws strength from the fact it represents most of the UK, which is important given the NBA’s unique position in representing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Further strength will come from additional people being co-opted and consulted in due course.

He says: “I’m really pleased with the calibre of people that I’ve got. They’re all 100 per cent committed to the NBA and together we will take things forward. We will be taking additional advice too. There are good people throughout the whole country, not necessarily directly involved in beef production, and I want to use as many as possible for their management skills and vision.”
