NBA Scotland extend invitation to Scottish Beef Cattle Association to discuss CAP reform

Next week a NBA Scotland-organised event has been opened up to SBCA members, as part of the pledge to move towards a single body to represent and serve Scottish beef producers.

The meeting on Wednesday 11th September at Stirling Mart is being staged to discuss CAP reform and the key points the beef sector needs to engage with the Scottish Government on, in order to secure a fair deal for producers.

Hamish McBean, NBA Chairman and NBA Scotland Chairman, says: “We’re all in favour of a single body in Scotland, as that is the best way to represent beef producers and strengthen the beef sector. CAP is a prime example of that, as it is the biggest threat facing beef farmers at the moment, and next week’s meeting will be vital.

“I’m committed to moving forward as a single body. However, that single body must be linked to the NBA in some way, as we will be stronger if we are part of a national organisation. Yes, policy can and should be different when appropriate, as we will operate as a separate and Scotland-specific body – but there must be a NBA link for us to agree to any change.”

The meeting at UA’s Stirling Mart will start at 10.30am. Please contact NBA Scotland if you are interesting in attending, or pass your comments on CAP reform to Mr McBean ahead of the meeting by calling 01309 651206 or emailing [email protected].
