Press Release - NBA makes another positive step forward for the future

NBA makes another positive step forward for the future.

The National Beef Association (NBA) took another important step yesterday (Tuesday, February 21st) in the review process to overhaul the organisation and make it more fit for purpose.

This reassessment was initiated on October 20th at the 2011 AGM, when the NBA Board stepped down to make way for a Review Committee to consider a new constitution and better ways of working. The AGM was adjourned on that date but was reconvened and closed yesterday with NBA and Review Committee Chairman Hamish McBean thanking members for their attendance and support for the on-going review process.

Mr McBean says: “It was very positive to reconvene and close the 2011 AGM and draw a line under that particular episode. With it now well and truly behind us we can focus even more fully on the task in hand – rewriting the Articles of Association and Rules that the NBA will operate by in the future, ensuring we are a transparent and democratic organisation that serves our loyal membership.

“These things take time, and we are very grateful to the members for their patience. The Review Committee was given four months when it was formed in October and, while we have achieved a great deal, it is clear we need slightly longer. The most positive thing to come out of yesterday’s meeting was the general consensus from those in attendance that we should take however much time we needed to do the job right.”

The reconvened AGM was preceded by a meeting of the NBA regional chairmen in which a draft of the new NBA Articles of Association was discussed and ideas put forward for the Rules to accompany the Articles. Regional chairmen will now discuss this further with members within their regions, before a second draft is made and all members consulted before the 2012 AGM, planned for early this summer.

Mr McBean says: “The first draft seemed to get a positive response from the regional chairman, which is a good sign. It is also hugely encouraging that all the regions were in attendance and voiced their support of the Review Committee and the work we are doing.

“We still have a way to go but we are definitely moving in the right direction and have a very positive future ahead of us.”
