Adam Henson unveils packed programme for NBA Beef Expo Farmer and TV presenter to spend day at industry showcase event

8th May 2015

Region: National

NBA Beef Expo has unveiled a packed itinerary for TV personality and farmer Adam Henson, who will be attending this year’s event in York as a farming ambassador.

Staged at York Auction Centre for the first time on Thursday May 21, the premier event for the beef industry includes the National Spring Spectacular Show, the best in commercial and pedigree cattle and seminars to update farmers on the latest developments in the industry – plus one of the UK’s most famous farmers.

Adam will be attending as a Lloyds Bank Agricultural Ambassador and visitors to the showcase event will be able to meet him at the Lloyds Bank stand at morning and afternoon sessions. He will also be meeting competitors, judging and presenting prizes at Beef Expo’s diverse range of competitions being held throughout the day.

Although best known for his appearances on TV in a variety of farming-related shows, Adam is an active farmer who manages a 650-hectare arable and livestock enterprise in the Cotswolds with business partner Duncan Andrews. Those who have watched him on TV will be familiar with the issues he has had with bovine TB, which resulted in the loss of valuable cattle. The farm includes the Cotswold Farm Park visitor attraction, which was the first of its kind in the country when Adam’s father opened it in 1971.

Chairman of the event and Partner of York Auction Centre Richard Tasker said: “NBA Beef Expo is the beef industry’s biggest showcase and we are looking forward to introducing Adam to fellow farmers, competitors and visitors to the show.

“There is something for everyone interested in the beef sector and we are also hoping that Adam will come away from the event having learned something new that he can put into practice on his own farm.”

Adam’s visit to Beef Expo will start on May 20, the day before the show, at a dinner at York Racecourse. The following morning, he will help judge the breed society show stands and present prizes. He will also meet the next generation competing in the Future Farmer Beef Challenge and schoolchildren visiting the event with EBLEX. Adam will be involved in the Leeds City College butchery competition and Steph Moon cookery demonstration, which will give visitors fresh ideas on using beef.

In the afternoon, he will assist the judges and present prizes to the winners of the National Spring Spectacular Show and present awards to the Future Beef Farmer Challenge winners. Adam will also be available to meet members of the public at the Lloyds Bank stand from 10.30am to 11am and 3.30pm to 4pm.

Richard continues: “We are delighted to welcome Adam to Beef Expo. Not only does he have a fantastic public profile, but he is a working farmer who understands the challenges facing the industry.

“He is an excellent ambassador for British farming and is a very welcome addition to this year’s event, which is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever.”

Beef Expo 2015 will be focusing on the future of the industry and in addition to the show classes and competitions, it will be highlighting new equipment and the changing demands of the beef sector. Three seminars will look in depth at EID benefits to the Beef Industry, VIA [Video Imaging Analysis] the Future of Grading, and Remote Cattle Management, while Asda will present a forum on Meeting the Changing Lifestyle of Today’s Consumer to help farmers better understand what customers want.

Plus, visitors will be able to enjoy a packed trade stand area, see around 20 different breeds of pedigree cattle, enjoy light hearted cookery demonstrations and watch auctioneers try their skills at cattle handling in the Auctioneers’ Handler Challenge. Farm tours take place on the day before the main show for those who want to see Yorkshire beef farming enterprises in action.
