FMD Update 1100 14th Sept 07

14th September 2007

Region: National

Current situation: - There are 2 IP~s, the farm culled as dangerous contact was infected.    IP 1 the farm identified on 12th Sept 07 is now IP 3 as the virus is the same as the one ealier in August.  The slaughter on suspicion farm becomes IP 4.  So the August outbreak continues rather than a new outbreak.

Defra are investigating a few potential scenarios to ascertain the source and spread of the FMD virus and this work is ongoing.   The control zone in Norfolk has been revoked.

Movement to slaughter in England is being discussed and a decision will be made in the next 24 hours.

Wales have allowed movement direct to slaughter from midnight tonight.

Defra are reviewing and discussing all welfare movement licences and decisions on relaxations will be made as soon as it is safe to do so.   A timeline of movement licences is being prepared.

Regionalisation - a domestic strategy is being discussed early next week.

Vaccination  - Genus teams are moving into isolation to be ready by day 7 as is required by the FMD contingency plan.  This does not mean they will be used.

Export - certificates are available for the export of processed meat/milk and composite products. (but not fresh meat or live animals).
